Finally into March – Donna Bamonte

Donna Bamonte

Well we are finally into March and things have been quite busy here. I have been setting up my own yard specialising in the retraining and re-homing of horses as well as “pre-training and breaking” and I am happy to say the first residents are finally in and settling well. Winter has been a hard time for us all and the rain has been a washout for everyone so to finally be in is a dream come true! I feel excited and nervous at the thought of going it alone however I am looking forward to a bright future, helping to secure the future of racehorses whether it be getting them on the right track for their future or helping them secure a new life after racing.

With all the moving I have been a little quiet on the competing front however I am hoping this month to have some outings with Valentine Jak prior to his first HOYS qualifier in April. The entries have opened for Royal Windsor Horse Show so I will be aiming him at this class too as we have never competed in “Her Majesty’s back garden” before.

Noble Jack has really benefited from his winter holiday and will contest the novice ROR circuit this season. He has needed plenty of time to adjust to his new career and we will progress in short steps until I feel he is ready to progress. I am excited for this horse and I hope he will hold his own as a retrained racehorse… I’m keeping everything crossed!!

George

We have a new resident at Southill Paddocks in the form of “George”, a four year old Thoroughbred gelding by Geordieland. ┬áStanding at almost 18.hh this is an impressive stamp of a horse however we have a lot of frame to fill. Time is the key and I have been slowly bringing him on so when he finally goes into training the “building blocks” will be in place. I have been feeding him ReadyMash Extra which he loves topped with Sumo Muscle Builder. Right now we are looking for growth, condition, muscle building and stability with the aim to have a nice solid horse to begin to train… a blank canvas!!! George is a quick learner and so willing so I’m quietly confident he will be a success on the track..always hopeful!!

Hopefully the next time I blog I will have some show results to share with you!!!
