I currently have four young horses that have all competed during July, it is always interesting to progress them on and can be a challenge to get the balance of training and competing right for each horse. My aim is to ensure that the young horses have the confidence to enjoy their job and want to try their best, whilst improving their performance and giving them the opportunity to display their talents.
Katie (Safira) is a 4 year old, sired by Spring Spirit and owned by the Springfield Stud. I backed her in January 2016, then she was given a break in Feb-April before coming back into work and is now progressing well. At her first BE event at Eland Lodge, Katie achieved a 30 dressage, a super clear cross country but unfortunately we had 2 poles down show jumping – still good enough for 5th place.

Katie has a fantastic attitude and is lovely to be around. At home I have been working on Katie’s show jumping with grid work, V poles and lots of exercises. At Stafford Horse Trials she did another dressage test for 28, but unfortunately she tripped whilst working in for show jumping and scared herself resulting in a green round with 2 poles down, she again stormed round the cross country and came 6th. To help with the show jumping Katie and I are having lessons from John Garton-Pope – so excited about this young horse’s future.
Tara (Maesfen Tara Mine) is a 5-year-old, sired by Morris Minor and owned by Ian Aitken and Sarah Harris, she was backed in January 2015 and we competed successfully in the BE 4yr olds last year ending the season with 12th place at the 4yr old championships at Osberton. Whilst on holiday Tara sustained an injury and so has had further time off to ensure full recovery, she is now back in full work and has had her first competitions this year during July. I am so pleased that she seems to have returned from where she left off and won her first dressage competition and achieving a double clear in her first British Show jumping show qualifying for scope and coming 5th!! I also took Tara cross country schooling and she was great – I am so thrilled to have her and feel she is a very talented youngster.
I also have the pleasure of riding two 6 year old’s that are on livery with Foxmoss Sports Horses and owned by Great Meadow Stud. Lady (Primitive Lady) and Mollie (Rainbow Fantasy) both came to Foxmoss at the end of November 2015, they spent the winter furthering their education and competing in British Dressage and British Show Jumping. I started riding them in April and took them to their first BE event at Brand in June, both mares are awesome cross country, brave and straight and their dressage is improving with flatwork exercises. Their show jumping is a little poley so these two mares are also had lessons with John Garton-Pope.

They both went to Eland Lodge at the beginning of July and had a good educational outing, then onto Stafford where Lady completed a with a double clear and came 9th. Two lovely young horses who are showing lots of promise.
My other competitions in July include a 5th place in the BE100plus with the lovely super consistent Paddy and a 2nd place in the BE100 at Cholmondeley, such a lovely boy.

2nd place on Basil and 5th place on Flower in dressage and a 4th place show jumping with the lovely Danny.
