In Full Swing - Christa Davis

We are now in full swing of our showing season and I'm pleased to report we are having a good one so far.

Devon County was the first show for Charlie this season and he came home with a 3rd. Smiles all round as he's still green but some really promising comments from the Judges.

Royal Cornwall was VERY wet. Before my first ride of the day I had already done one outfit change. Roxy made her comeback to the ring by having a 6th out of a very strong class of Hunters. She found the ground quite tiring with the mud being up to her knees and the rain thrashing down in our faces! I'm happy to say the Ride Judge gave her a very sympathetic ride and could tell it had taken it out of her. But with pleasing comments, we came out with smiles. To Roxy's delight, she was rewarded with a small feed of Ready Mash Extra. Onto my second ride of the day which was a catch ride on a Ladies Hunter, produced by Stephen Norris. Luckily the sun came out in time for my next outfit change of Habit and Top Hat. I had never seen or sat on this horse let alone ridden him Sideways in a HOYS Qualifier, but I'm very happy to say we achieved a 3rd in a highly contested Ladies Qualifier. My last ride was Malibu, we didn't make the step up to County Level last year but decided she was ready for it now. She made her debut a Winning one and bagged Reserve Champion too. She's now aimed at several HOYS Qualifiers in the next few months.

Day 2 started off totally different with the sun shining and it was an important class for Charlie to be in as Henrietta Knight was judging. She's a very respectable Connemara breeder and Judge. Charlie stood 3rd and Henrietta loved him, a few helpful tips were given and she mentioned she would look out for him in future as he's going to be a star.

Roxy and Rory went on to Three Counties where Roxy had a 3rd in her Irish Draught Sports Horse Ridden Class and Rory, unfortunately, wasn't the judge's cuppa tea but he behaved in temperatures of 37'degrees carrying a sidesaddle so that's the main thing.

We head to Monmouth next.

Mac's update, his leg has virtually healed from the dramatic de-gloving injury he sustained back in February. There is only a tiny scab left to heal up now. With the help of Rowen Barbary ReadyMash Extra, I was able to hide his antibiotics in this and he wasn't aware there was anything in there! He is happy out in the field with the other hunters getting fat 🙂

Here is a before, middle and after picture of Mac's leg.
