New Additions, New Season

Since our last instalment, we have nearly been washed away. Everywhere was under water, the horses and people were all fed up, and it felt like it would never end!!!!

Countless Point to Points were cancelled, so Spain has only had two runs since. The first one, at Charlton Horethorne, was somewhat stressful, our usual jockey Charlie had a fall at the last fence in the race before ours breaking his collar bone so we had a last minute dash to find a substitute rider! Not ideal with a horse who at times can be tricky to say the least! Josh Newman stood in the take the reins, and did a fantastic job to finish in 3rd! The next time he ran was at the North Ledbury meeting at Hereford racecourse. Charlie was back in the saddle and again he finished 3rd! It has been great to be in the winner’s enclosure, and we plan on giving him one more run before he has a well deserved summer holiday!

Seeing as though not much else has been happening due to the endless rain, I thought I would take this opportunity to introduce a couple of new horses we have this year, to run alongside the team from last season.

Firstly, and a new venture for us, we have Berkeley Street, who will be campaigned in the Retraining of Racehorses series.

Berkeley came to us via Fred & Rowena Cook who runs Equine Management and Training – Retraining Racehorses, Rehab and Schooling. He was bred to race on the flat, by Sheikh Mohammed and was gifted to HM The Queen as a yearling. He is a charming little horse, and has settled fantastically well into life with us. He was bred at Darley Stud, by Street Cry, out of Dream Ticket. By our next blog he will have attended his first show, as a competitor, we are very hopeful that he enjoys being a Show horse!

Our next new in-mate is 4 year old Alf. He is by the same stallion as our coloured (now 3 year old!), Wessex Starring Role. He has been backed and will be going to a show in the not too distant future. He’s got quite a lot of growing to do; he’s already had a growth spurt since he arrived!

I had a great weekend away recently judging in Essex. I judged Hacks, Cobs, Maxis, Riding Horses and Hunters. I was very well looked after, and judged some lovely horses. Can’t wait to get my own out now!
