Sarah Tomkins - #RBTeam
Sarah Tomkins has just recently joined the #RBTeam after successfully entering our Sponsored Rider competition, here we find out abit more about Sarah and her horses. How many horses are on your yard? Today's total is 14 horses this includes my daughters two ponies and a mare of my own which we will be taking to stud in the next few weeks, 5 sales liveries, 1 full livery, 1 part livery and 4 registered event horses. Could you tell us about your most memorable horse or pony? My first horse LYDIA II purchased from Annette Higgins when I was 17 years old without a clue about eventing. I purchased the 7 year old bay mare to take part in teams for the the Tanatside Hunt Branch in the Novice challenge eventing which we did in our first year together and qualified after my summers experience with Andrew Heffernan. We did 1 Intro, 2 Pre-novices and up to Novice (it seemed so easy). In our time together we won two pony club open area qualifiers and 2 x BE Novices but my age meant I missed out on JRN so we headed up, having ago at a few U21s, back then I had no guidance and had to learn from my own mistakes but I bought this mare to do 90s and what we achieved is what has made me what I am today. What are your high points and achievements to date? My most important achievement is the yard and team I have built up since having my daughter, thanks to my parents for the use of their property and my fantastic owners for making this all possible, without them I wouldn't have all of this now. Winning pony club and riding club open areas with LYDIA. Double clear at the badminton grassroots in 2010 with WARRINESSE which was a fantastic week for the whole family. Individual 3rd and overall 10th out of one hundred plus at the Riding Club 3DE championships with Coton Rainbow Star. Each and every win I achieve, how ever small the event is a great achievement on a young or a new ride and each run I get with Neo Du Brueil and Coton Rainbow Star is a high, each time I event them I can't wait to enter the next. What are your goals for 2015? I am hoping Neo will give me my first 2* ride aiming for Gatcombe Park and Coton Rainbow Star will step up to do 1*. Having missed all my age classes, my all time goal is to go advanced and I would love to gain a place on the training squad and hopefully the team for the RC CIC** TEAM. I know I have a little way to go but this is where I am setting my sights, I have been saying for the past 10 years that I want to go advanced by the time I am 30, giving myself just 14 months to go I am not giving this goal up just yet. Have you got any top tips? Be positive and keep smiling, eventing is full of highs and lows so learn from the lows and enjoy the highs.
